| LOCAL BUSINESS OWNER UNDERWRITES STUDENT TICKETS TO THE SYMPHONY MARCH 2004 Several Newport High School students attended the April 3 performance of the Newport Symphony Orchestra for free, thanks to a local businesswoman and arts supporter. Diana Martin, owner of Coast Graphics Media, provided underwriting for the Symphonys new free student ticket program. The Symphony provided vouchers good for a free ticket with the purchase of at least one ticket at full price to ten music students. The students who received the free ticket vouchers are Joannah All, Dyllynn Crichton, Krystle Forester, Kristen Iverson, Ashley Jarrett, Eric Johnson, Whitney Line, Colin McNamara, Tiffany Nichols, and Tyler Runyon, all of Newport High School. Darrel Meisenheimer, Band Director at Newport High School, said, This is a wonderful opportunity for these students. Having allies like the Newport Symphony and local business people like Diana really fill in a hole left by ever-dwindling arts and music funding. This community doesnt know how lucky it is to have these kind of organizations and people willing to invest in our youth. Coast Graphics Media is celebrating its tenth year on the Coast with a series of events, including charitable support for projects with the theme of ten. We were so pleased to be able to provide students with the fantastic experience of attending the Newport Symphony, said Martin. She added, I hope the Symphony inspires these young musicians to continue their music studies and participation in the arts. It could be them up there in a few years! Businesses or individuals interested in underwriting future free student ticket programs should contact BAY Music Association at 574.0614. This is a wonderful chance to help our youth become the ones to enrich our future with music. Can you imagine what a world without music would be like? It doesnt cost a business much to support a program like this, but the rewards down the road are immeasurable! The Newport Symphony Orchestra is the only full-time symphony on the Oregon Coast. It is based in Newport, and includes members from the Coast, as well as from Eugene, Portland, Bend, and beyond. The presenter of the Symphony, BAY Music Association, is supported by the City of Newport, Coast Arts, and various foundations, businesses and individual donors. |
